OHIO SHERIFF-SALE SURPLUS

After the sale,
follow the distribution.

A sheriff-sale result is an important record. The next question is what the case shows about the proceeds and any remaining balance.

What the Ohio statute addresses

Ohio Revised Code §2329.44 addresses excess sale proceeds, delivery of the remaining balance to the clerk, notice and payment to the debtor or legal representatives for sales covered by that chapter. Confirm the current status with the relevant clerk. Ohio Revised Code §2329.44 ↗

Build a short case summary

Write down the court and case number exactly as recorded. Include the property and sale date, then note where each figure came from. Distinguish an auction result from an order or statement describing distribution. If you have only one document, record what it proves and leave the rest open.

Do not turn a partial file into a promise

A sale amount minus an old loan balance can produce an attractive number without producing a reliable estimate. Use the relevant payoff and deductions. If the information is missing, say so rather than showing a precise but unsupported figure.

Caliber's QR breakdowns display the supplied figures and their preparation date. They are not court records, signed awards or a substitute for confirmation with the office handling the case. Legal advice belongs to a licensed attorney.
